Goals For 2018

Last week, someone reached out to me on Instagram to let me know that they've been reading my blog and made it back to my Blueprint Post. In that post I shared some goals and action steps that I wanted to tackle over the next five years and he just wanted to know how I made out after year one. I'm glad he spurred me to go back and look because in 2017 I was supposed to:
  • Pay off my Credit Card - I'm still hovering around the same balance that I was towards the end of last year *face palm*
  • Pay off an additional $3,000 of my car loan - N O P E , I've only made the regular payments
  • Complete 3 Real Estate Wholesale deals - Didn't happen either. Found it difficult to compete in this market. There are a lot of big players who can spend $10k-$15k month in marketing...something I am not able to do without a big stack of cash. In this post, I talk about changing directions - which is what needed to be done with this goal.
  • Earn a working salary of $65k - Smashed this goal!
  • Add $3,000 to my emergency - Accomplished!

Two out of five. 40%. Damn... I think the biggest factors in me not completing all of my goals is that I never accounted for wedding spending when writing the Blueprint (which is where almost all of my after-expense cash has gone) and I didn't periodically review my goals to keep me in line. Periodic goal review is very important; especially if you are prone to getting off track and losing focus like myself. Going forward, I'll be reviewing my goals twice a day - once in the morning and once again right before bed.

Since I've pivoted, my 2018 goals are a bit different from what I had planned in the original Blueprint. I've broken them down into different segments. I have goals for myself, my blog and my photo booth business. Here they are below:

Alex, the Man, the Myth, the Legend
  • Pay off Credit Card (forreals this time)
  • Get Car Loan Balance to $10k
  • Increase Salary by $10k
  • Reach and maintain weight of 175-180lbs
  • Have front door replaced
  • Have fence installed
  • Avg. $500 in monthly Amazon Sales

Thirty&Free The Blog
  • Avg. monthly page views of 3,000
  • Publish at least one post every week
  • Publish monthly budget/expense/income report
  • Write (5) guest posts for other blogs
  • Earn avg. $250 monthly freelance writing

AK Events, LLC (photo booth rental biz)
  • Purchase another full booth and (2) selfie stations
  • Produce revenues of $72k o_O
  • Create 50% of our clients' backdrops and templates in-house
  • Pay off our biz credit card and loan
  • Hire 2 attendants to help operate booths (not sure whether as  part-time employees  or 1099 contractors)

2018 is here y'all! Write your goals and share them with someone who will keep you accountable! Make sure you call me out if you see me in person or on social media doing something that goes against my goals. We can't do this alone!

What are you guys planning on accomplishing next year? Hopefully it involves reading some books! Let me know in the comments below!

p.s. Scroll past the comments to Subscribe to my email list, where I'll send you notifications when a new post drops and when you do, you'll get a copy of the budget and expense tracker I use!

Hi Alex!

I stumbled upon your blog post via IG because you mentioned about goals and resolutions. So I got a bit curious... you've got a curious George over here haha.

I'm sorry to hear your story about this year. I can understand that the wedding spending may have sidetracked you a bit. But it's okay because it's never too late to start moving again!

It's also great that you wrote them down here because studies show that people are more likely to action on their checklist if they write them down.

Btw, since you mentioned that you're going to release 1 post per week, I subscribed to your blog. I'm looking forward reading your future posts :)

I'm also wishing you the best for your 2018 goals! GO 'N CRUSH THEM!!

Yup, I saw your tracker but didn't get a chance to play w/ it yet! I sure will during the coming weekend and let you know about it. So far from what I remember, it's pretty lookin' :)

And yes, my fiance and I have a goal to pay off a bit of debt and build some cash for 2018! I wrote some of them in my following posts here:

Feel free to take a look when you have time! We can encourage each other to crush our goals next year. Talk more soon!
